Mat Pilates is a low impact form of exercise that targets core muscle groups through repetition to create increased strength, balance, mobility, balance and flexibility.
Pilates is an evidence based form of exercise and can help you to enjoy your favourite activities - no matter what life stage you are in.
Invented by German born Joseph Pilates while interned during WW1, the pre-Pilates 'Contrology' method was developed to help rehabilitate his fellow prisoners, and focused on posture, muscle strength and flexibility.
Upon his release, Joseph moved to New York City where he opened a studio and worked with dancers and athletes to prevent injury.
And so the Classical Pilates method was born.
Yes of course, and we understand. Our classes are targeted at women aged 30-70+ who are either new to, or returning to exercise.
Blissful Body Pilates was founded by a woman with curves (!) and life experience. At 48, Ness Wiltshire bucks the 'young & lithe' social media stereotype.
With a background in health promotion and preventative health, Ness understands women's bodies are always changing, be it through pregnancy, birth, peri and post menopause, chronic health conditions and injury. Ness is committed to making students feel comfortable and strives to deliver safe, enjoyable (and challenging!) classes.
If you have a chronic health condition, are experiencing injury or are in pain, please get in touch before class. We will do our best to modify exercises to suit your needs. However in some instances we may ask for medical clearance before you attend class.
Blissful Body Pilates classes are taught by Ness Wiltshire (Heathcote resident) who is certified and insured to deliver mat (and reformer) classes as a form of general exercise only. We do not diagnose or treat pathologies. If you are experiencing pain / are injured, or have a condition that may be impacted by exercise, medical clearance may be needed.

Yes, you can. If you are in your second or third trimester please let us know prior to class, as we will modify certain exercises (eg supine / laying on your back). If you have recently given birth, please seek medical clearance before attending class. A general guideline is 6-8 weeks for a natural birth and 8-12 weeks post caesarean.
